Luther Memorial is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Founded in 1886, our church serves the Blacksburg community, including the student and academic populations of Virginia Tech, and residents of Southwest Virginia’s New River Valley.
Our Social Ministry Outreach extends far beyond the campus and Blacksburg boundaries as we minister to the world, following the example of Jesus Christ. Our mission partners include the ELCA, the Virginia Synod of the ELCA, and many local, regional and national non-profit agencies.

The mission of Luther Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church is to proclaim and preserve the gospel of justification by grace through faith in Christ. We are a Reconciling in Christ Congregation compelled and empowered by the Holy Spirit to share our fellowship with all people through worship, learning, witness and service that the Word of God in Jesus Christ may become active in human lives.
